While booting off the Live Media, the default user login and password is jack. If you need to become the root user, you can use the password solaris. Later, we will discuss more about how the initial user is set up during the Oracle Solaris installation.

If you are trying to install Oracle Solaris 11 onto a SPARC-based system, you will have to use the Interactive Text Installer. Unlike the Live Media, this installation installs a selection of software that is suitable for a server-oriented environment. It does not include a desktop environment. After the initial installation, you can install a full desktop environment by using the Package Manager to install the solaris-desktop package.
Solaris version supports ACLs. The cpio archive may span multiple volumes. The -i, -o, and -p options select the action to be performed. This specialized archiver is rarely seen any more, having been largely eliminated bytar/gzip. It's capabilities are emulated in pax (see below) pax is an attempt to merge functionality previously provided by bothcpio and tar . Support ACLs. ufsdump and ufsrestore are just renamed old and pretty basic Unix dump and restore. Despite renaming those Solaris partition-based backup utilities like the original utilities definitely lack any polish. You cannot even compare them to Ghost. These two commands function as a pair. ufsrestore can only restore from tapes/archives created by ufsdump. ufsdump only copies data from a partition (a raw disk slice in solaris terminology). It does not copy free blocks. If a directory contains a symbolic link that points to a file on another disk slice, the link itself is copied. When ufsdump is used with the u option, the /etc/dumpdates file is updated. This file keeps a record of when filesystems were last backed up, including the level of the last backup, day, date and time. ufsdump typically is used to back entire partitions.ufsrestore has an interactive mode which can be used to select individual files and directories for restoration. It also supports an option to read the table of contents from the archive file instead of the backup media. Elizabeth D. Zwicky torture tested all the backup programs discussed here. She created file systems containing a large variety of unusual conditions (and some not so unusual ones) and tested each program by doing a backup and restore of those file systems.
